The Sots Press
The Sots press is one of the textbook strength development exercises.
It was named after the Soviet Olympic weightlifter Victor Sots (on the cover photo).
Sots was an extremely strong Soviet lifter of the 1980s. He won the World and European titles in 1981 and 1982 and set 6 World records in the 100kg weight class. He was famous for his powerful push press style of the clean-and-jerk lift.
During the training sessions in the U.S., he managed to press 160kg (!!!) in the low down position shown on the photo. American experts were impressed with this and named this exercise as “Sots press”.
