Russ Knipp at the 1972 Olympics in Munich

I began attending SUNY Geneseo in 1972 and sometime during that year I remember walking into the college weight room and seeing a rather small man with a stocky build doing front squats with 405lb. I had never heard of Russ before then and had only seen some supers on TV. After a few years of growing interest in weightlifting I had seen pictures of him and wondered if he had been that man in the weight room. Are there any old timers around who might remember a competition in western NY where he competed? Geneseo is onle 5 hours from Pittsburgh, his hometown.
