Referee Sergey Artamonov is 85

January 30, 2022 – Outstanding Olympic weightlifting referee Sergey Artamonov celebrates his 85th Birthday today!

Sergey Artamonov served as an official at the national and international IWF competitions for decades and without any doubts may be named as Mr. Referee of Olympic weightlifting.

He officiated in the eras of Yury Vlasov and Leonid Zhabotinsky, David Rigert and Vasily Alexeev, Anatoly Pisarenko and Alexander Kurlovich and most recent legends of this sport. Throughout decades, Artamonov earned top respect among coaches, athletes, sports executives and, of course, among his fellow referees.

There are many trade secrets and word of wisdom that he learned in his career. Perhaps, the main secret is “Stick with the rules!”
