Tammi Piermarini, All Time Great Female Jockey
We already wrote about the Suffolk Downs in East Boston, about its history and closing in 2013, about its main characters and usuals, and about special live events of the 2015 Fall festival.
This publication begins the portraits of the Suffolk Downs characters that I met while making photos of the place. Among all the characters of the racing, the jockeys are perhaps the most colorful. Some of them are pretty famous not only at the Suffolk Downs but on the national level.
Tammi Piermarini belongs to this group for sure. She is one of the all-time best female jockeys of the nation. Her winning record is # 3 on the list of all-time riders.
With all this said, Tammi is a total fun to watch while riding horses. There is a healthy mix in her between natural charismatic smile and ability to focus for the race. She began her career in this business in 1985 and continues to excel with her results. Most of her winning races were held in the Suffolk Downs. However closing of the track in 2013 didn’t slow down Tammi and she continues to lead the pack.
Here is her results in 2015:
Starts | Firsts | Seconds | Thirds | Earnings | |
2015 | 265 | 38 | 35 | 36 | $1,362,017 |
