All-Time Best Champions in the History of U.S. Olympic Weightlifting
On the History in Color cover photo, there are 9 Summer Olympics in various weight classes, 5 Olympic and 15 World titles, 5 Pan American Games golds and 50+ world records.
There are three legendary U.S. athletes (left to right) on the photo:
- Norbert Schemansky (1924-2016),
4x Olympian, Olympic champion in Helsinki (1952), Olympic silver (1948) and 2x bronze (1960, 1964) medalist, 3x World champion (1951, 1953, 1954), Pan American Games champion (1955), 13 world records - John Davis (1921-1984),
2x Olympian, Olympic champion in London (1948) and Helsinki (1952), 6x World champion (1938, 1946, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951), Pan American Games champion (1951), 16 world records and - Tommy Kono (1930-2016),
3x Olympian, Olympic champion in Helsinki (1952) and Melbourne (1956), Olympic silver medalist (1960), 6x World champion (1953-1955, 1957-1959), 3x Pan American Games champion (1955, 1959, 1953), 23 world records
Just a matter of my opinion: the three weightlifting legends on this History in Color cover photo can be considered the all-time best athletes that ever competed for the United States in Olympic weightlifting.
