London, Scala Theatre, 1961: Alexander Kurynov (USSR) lifts 298 1/2 LBS. A new world record. Kurynov is congratulated by Mikhail Gromov, USSR Weightlifting Chairman. Waldemar Baszanowski (Poland) lifts 282 LBS. Richard Zirk (USA) fails to lift the weight. Yury Vlasov (USSR) lifts 435 3/4 LBS.
