Clip-O-Rama @LiftUp: Olympic Weightlifting Classics

Jaan Talts, USSR

Jaan Talts (USSR) was one of the best Estonian sports personalities of all times and one of the best heavyweights in the world of the early 1970s. The footage features 24-year old Talts at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. Talts set up a world record in clean-and-jerk (197.5 kg) in the mid heavyweight class and won a silver Olympic medal. A very disciplined athlete and always conscious about his appearance on and off the platform, Talts was a truly favorite of the fans of the iron game. Throughout his career, Jaan Talts set 42 world records.

* The Clip-O-Rama section of the Lift Up website presents an educational and research multimedia library of mini-clips featuring various oldtime Olympic lifters and events of the 20th century.
