Valery Shary, USSR

Valery Shary (USSR) was one of the strongest light heavyweights in the world in the 1970s. A native of Belorussia, he managed to win the place on the Team USSR roster during the times when there were 3-4 equally strong athletes in each weight class to represent the nation on the international arena. Very much like his friend and teammate David Rigert, Shary rather underperformed at the three Olympics - bombed out in Munich 1972 and didn't make the national team in the last moment at the Moscow Olympics in 1976. The footage features the climax of Shary's career - gold medal performance at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.
