Jean Claude (J.C.) Tremblay joined the Montreal Canadiens of the NHL on a full-time basis during the 1961-62 season. He quickly impressed opposing players and fans with his outstanding skating ability, hard shot, and superb passing. Never a physical player J.C. preferred a more "European" style finesse game with allowed him to "mesh" superbly with the fast skating, offensively explosive Canadien teams of the 60's and early 70's. In the summer of 1972 he was picked for Team Canada 1972 however was dropped from their roster after he signed a contract with the Quebec Nordiques of the brand new WHA.

He quickly established himself as the finest defenseman in the new league, being named the top defenseman in the WHA on two separate occasions. He was one of Billy Harris's first picks for Team Canada 74.

During the Summit J.C and his defensive partner Pat Stapleton would be on the ice for almost every critical moment. He played strong defense and constantly launched "counter attacks" with swift "laser beam" like passes to the Team Canada forwards breaking out of the Canadian zone. By the end of the Summit, J.C was being recognized as one of the finest defensemen in the world.
