To Boris: Agreed! Thank you.

Who told you there are 2 million Turks in Bulgaria? They have always been less than 9% of the population and that would place their number at less than 800000 before the mass exodus and much less today.

Naim! My name is Suat Mutlu, It turns out you are my uncle. My dads name is Necatin Mutlu who is your cousin from Bulgaria where you first lived. I'm a sponsored skateboarding athlete and I have just learned who you are at the age of 23 which happened to be your best year from what I saw from the Olympic videos. I'm looking to get in touch with you for family sake and motivational purposes. You gave me the strength to try harder and now I read what people are saying and they're absoulelty right, you need your own movie. I know more about you than you think. I also have a older brother who happens to be going down the wrong path. I happen to have really strong legs which makes this all a coincidence. But my favorite story that my grandma would tell was that you were born in a cemetery between 2 graves and that the God gave you strength. I hope you read this and somehow one day get in contact with me. Family will always be family. EMAIL- Suatmutlu91@yahoo.com

:: 1/1/2013: Lachezar Tomov, , Bulgaria
The greatest creation of Abajdiev. Naim suffered from communists who wanted to change his name. He is Bulgarian of turkish origin, not turk, since he is born there, his grand-grandparents are born there and turks are late comers to the Balkans

:: 10/1/2012: Arthur Chidlovski, Boston MA, USA

Naim Suleymanoglu is the greatest weightlifter of all time !!. The facts speak for themselves. Yurik Vardanyan would also be in that exalted sphere of great weightlifters. But of course that does not mitigate the performances of other great lifters like Dimas etc

In 1985 Naim and I wrote letters to each other.I was ih High School and he just became the 'Dete chudo' at that time. That was, when we both were still living in Bulgaria. He once wrote, that he expect my letters with exitment and it is adding colors to his strict sportsmanship life. I got immpression that his couches are not allowing him 'out of his cage'. The people in my village new every single letter that I received from him. I am proud to be his friend forever. Thank uou!

I read the comment by one fan that asked why there hasn't been a movie made about Naim. Where are you going to find a 5 ft. tall actor with the ability to lift 190kg. or even to act the part? Americans don't even know who he is for the most part so there would not be a market for the movie here. Too bad, it is a very dramatic story.

YOU ARE BEST!!!

:: 8/19/2009: José, , Brazil
Today, I see these tables of records and confuses me. It seems that the records in the lifts are out of order. I do not know, I do not understand...

Greatest lifter ever!!! There is Naim, after him there are the great champions and after them there are other weightlifters...

:: 6/8/2009: tzatzanis dimitris, , greece
bulgarians trainer said that souleimanoglou is their creation. souleimanoglou said that it is true but he also make his effort, this is lie, the proof is that if souleimanoglou trained at tourkey he will not lift 190kg but in the best case 150kg and something else everyone said that at communism used anabolics if it is so why they use athletes from that country, hipocrisy

:: 5/15/2009: Mike Sheard, , great britain
I really hope hes Ok, hes the greatest olympic weightlifter who ever lived!

IWF 12.05.2009 - After heavy medical treatment Naim Suleymanoglu returned to his mother's home from hospital last Saturday. His health is going better. During treatment, Turkish governors and media showed a great interest on him on top level. On his doctors' advice he cannot receive visitors. After one week, he will open his doors to accept visitors. (Turkish Weightlifting Federation)

:: 5/13/2009: Arthur Chidlovski, Boston MA, USA
IWF 05.02.2009 - Suleymanoğlu was taken to Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Hospital on Thursday after having a seizure from a high fever. The hospital's vice chief of medicine, Dr. İbrahim Morgül, said Süleymanoğlu was in stable condition, but more tests were needed before making a diagnosis about the 42-year-old iron pumper. 'We have yet to know if the problem is about the brain, the lungs or diabetes,' said Morgül. 'We have taken care of his seizures and he is stabilized. But we will only understand more about his situation after more tests.' Turkish Weightlifting Federation chairman Hasan Akkuş visited Süleymanoğlu in his room and said the athlete's condition did not look bad. 'He is not very well, but not bad at all,' said Akkuş. 'I talked with him, and he said 'We will get over this,' to me.' One of the greatest weightlifters in the sport's history, Süleymanoğlu is a three-time Olympic winner, earning gold medals in the Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996 games. (Hurrieyet)

Naim was the first Turkish athlete to win a Olympic gold medal at a sport other than wrestling. Many other Turkish weightlifters followed him later because he was literally the national in Turkey and many kids took him as a model. His story about his forced name change, his escape from communists, his three Olympic gold medals, and his reunion with his family are all all like a movie. I wonder why there is no movie on him?
