September 9, 1948, London, Great Britain – 23-year old featherweight Mahmoud Fayad of Team Egypt wins the 60kg class with a 332.5kg world record total at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London.

Mahmoud Fayad (1925-2002) was one of the great athletes of the legendary Team Egypt of the 1940s.

Besides being an Olympic champion (1948), Mahmoud Fayad was a 2x World Champion (1949, 1950) and a vice World Champion (1946).
