Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Vyacheslav Klokov of Team USSR set 4 world records
As a witness/spectator of/to the ’83 Worlds, I remember it well. It was a first rate performance. What must also be remembered are some of the injuries he had to overcome before solidifying his placing on the victory stand. Another International Elite level competitor like Super-heavyweight Pisarenko, that possibly missed out on an Olympic gold medal do to the Soviet-Eastern Bloc boycott of the ’84 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
It was an impressive world championship. Though the sports “climate” has changed since then, its record breaking 23 world records may never be broken.
