Dave was one of my first heroes when I began lifting. I never realized that we lived very close to each other until years later…always thought he was a California guy.At the time I only knew him from some photos in a book on training. Dave told me that he missed the world record snatch in Stockholm,(1953), due to the fact he liked to take a collar to collar grip and push out against the inner collars .When he lifted in Sweden, the bars were 52″ between collars, instead of the usual 48″ spacing. As a result, he lost the snatch backwards. I believe it was 127.5kg in the 75kg class.
An interesting guy and extremely intelligent..could speak on a variety of diverse topics.
