Photographic Memory
“Rigert ain’t stupid! He wears boots in the snow.”
Old pictures have stories associated with them in our memory.
The photo on the left was inserted into my weightlifting diaries when I was a junior lifter.
The athletes jumped from the hot Russian sauna into the snow.
David Rigert is in the middle of the picture. He is the only one who wears boots.
Still remember that, every time we saw this photo, we laughed:
“Rigert ain’t stupid! He wears boots in the snow.”
David Rigert was the lifters’ lifter. All of us wanted to be like David Rigert, the 1976 Olympic Champion of Montreal.
“Rigert ain’t stupid! He wears boots in the snow.”
Russian weightlifters are banned from competing at the Olympics!
How many boots did they need to wear in Russia to let it happen?
Where in the world is Rio de Janeiro?
