Little Blue Heron in Florida
Continuing to share the photos made during our trip to Florida in December, here goes a slideshow featuring a Juvenile Little Blue Heron.
Little Blue Herons are fairly small. Adult birds are very dark and have a purple maroon head and neck, dark blue body, yellow eyes and greenish legs. Juveniles (like the fellow in the slides) are entirely white.
The Little Blue Heron is a stand-and-watch predator slowly stalking fish and small morsels. They walk slowly in the water and often change their search for food location to a totally different site. They nest in trees, usually among other nesting herons and wading birds.
