Downy Woodpecker From Ipswich
I’ve always been fascinated with woodpeckers. In my childhood, the image of a little hardworker drumming on the trees somewhere in the forest seemed mysterious and caused various thoughts of how the guy might look like. For whatever reason, I thought he should look like Ringo Star from the Beatles.
Then, I watched a movie in Russia called “Woodpeckers Have No Headaches”. Perhaps, woodpeckers might become NHL speakers in a campaign against concussions.
Anyway, here goes a slideshow with photos I made in the Ipswich River Audubon Sanctuary. Very much like in the birds’ textbook, he teamed up with a jolly gang of chickadees, titmice and nuthatches. Downy Woodpecker is just a little bigger than his buddies (6″) and seemed to have a great time with them.
