Our Landmark
Every place in the world has its own landmarks. Our town is no exception.
Of all well-known places on our island, I would say it would be the Winthrop Water Tower.
Of course, it’s not the official choice. The tower is not some architectural or historic centerpiece.
It’s not like Big Ben in London. Or Leaning Tower in Pisa, Italy. Or Red Square in Moscow.
Winthrop Tower is painted in red, white and blue. It is capable of holding 1 million US gallons (3,800 m3) of water. Located on Great Head (or Cottage Hill), it can’t be missed whether you approach Boston harbor from the sea or from the air.
I think it’s a very good candidate for being our town’s landmark.
With all this said, I’ve noticed that all photo reports and photography cases featuring our place at Chidlovski Blog Chidlovski are mostly event driven. You can see storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, parades, etc. And the Water Tower is always a side kick. Always in the background. This time it’s a compilation of our photos featuring Winthrop Water Tower as the landmark of our town.
