      Слушает и отвечает на английском.

        Спасибо. Ситуация понятная: я, бывая в России (живу в Штатах), все время ловил себя на желании улыбнуться продавщице и начать отвечать по-английски “fine”, “good” и т.д. Но обошлось: никто ничего на спрашивал.

          Привет землякам 🙂 Тоже самое и у меня – иногда употреблял английские выражения, которые никто не понимал 🙂

    I don’t know, but I find this story very depressing. I mean, surely you knew that she meant to phone the local police and not Boston police and even if you were confused at first, you did realise that you were phoning the US when they started answering in English. Didn’t the state of things e.g. people’s aggression and rudeness even among women taken so casually and ignored by others (I mean your companion was persuading you to ignore the assault) make you feel bad?
    I really don’t understand how anyone can make light of something as horrible as
    the way people treat each other in Russia and write humorous stories about it and how others can comment that it’s ‘zabavno’.

      It is not a “humorous” story. It’s a true story. There are no rights or wrongs here. It’s just the way it was. I don’t think it happens all the time in Moscow. It just happened that night. Didn’t mean to depress anyone.
