Antonio Krastev

Are there any old clips of this young giant strongman competing in armwrestling for Bulgarias national title? He ended up taking second place to a huge bodybuilder named Krasi in sofia way back in the late 80's. 88 was just a tragic disaster for this guy. Being in top shape, he'd 've snatched 217.5 and cj 255, maybe 257.5 to win the title of the strongest, which at the time still enjoyed immense international popularity and respect, over all other forms of strength competition. RIP.

I saw Antonio lift in Luton in 1980. He clean and jerked 230 kgs at 19 years old. To my knowledge no one in the Uk has ever managed this weight !!!

Does anyone know where Krastav is living now? I had heard a few years ago that he was in Savannah, Ga. USA coaching. I would love to know, thanks.

He has the highest snatch ever 216kg. I believe that his total of 467.5 ranks him in the top five of all time strongest men. A great, great lifter

It was quite a spectacle to see this man of huge proportions move so explosively and nimbly to secure that heavy weight overhead!

I can only speculate why Krastav stopped competing internationally after 1988 but He missed out on the 1984 Olympics due to the Eastern Bloc boycott and in 88 the team withdrew before he could compete so he had to be pretty dissatisfied. He may have felt that training four more years to make it to another Olympics was more than he wanted. I also believe that he did not get along well with Coach Abajiev, who was a well known taskmaster. Several Bulgarian lifters later left to compete for other countries, so who knows for sure?

I looked up Krastav's bwt. for the 1987 World Championships. It was reported in International Olympic Lifter, an American publication, that he weighed in at 164.2 Kg. This was the competition where he made 216Kg. in the snatch. After moving to the US he competed in some local meets at 174 Kg. That I witnessed in person.

Anyone know Krastev's bodyweight? Best snatch technique that easily tops Rezazadeh and Salimikorasiabi's.

Am I wrong? Didn't Antonio snatch 217 years ago?? Has that been equalled or surpassed? Very, very quick.....very, very flexible.

The fastest superheavy I've ever seen. His speed under the bar in the snatch is unbelieveable!
