At the time of the Summit, Vyacheslav Solodukhin was a new prospect on the Soviet team. In 1972, he was invited by Soviet coach Bobrov to play for the national team and won a silver medal at the World Championship in Prague. As a promising center of the second Army club in the Soviet League in Leningrad, he showed high ranking scoring, good technical skills and steady defensive performance in several championships. Solodukhin played most of his career in SKA Leningrad in the USSR Elite League.
