Richard Martin starred with the famous “French Connection” line in Buffulo of the 1970’s. He was a renowned natural born goal scorer. His wickedly powerful, rapid slapshot became legendary in the times he played pro hockey. Like his teammates, Gilbert Perreault and Rene Robert, he was a slick skater and loved to play fast crisscrossing style frequently compared to the European team work. Martin’s career ended when he was only 30 because of the knee injury. He remains one of the highest ranking scorers per game in the NHL history.

PERFORMANCE IN THE 1972 SUMMIT A young prospective player at the time of the Summit, Richard Martin saw no action in the series. In fact, he was one of the four players (Hadfield, Perreault, Martin and Guevremont) that left Team Canada during the Moscow part of the series and were referred by Harry Sinden as "deserters". According to some experts, Perreault, Martin and Guevremont were pressured by their GM Punch Imlach to return to the Buffalo Sabres.
